Catching Up With...Trey Canard
To most, the name Trey Canard may not
ring a bell. After making his professional
debut at Millville Minnesota, Trey finished
fourth place in moto two. Trey continued
to turn heads by consistently finishing
inside the top ten at the last three
nationals on the circuit, and proving he is
going to be a force to be reckoned with in
the future. The last time we saw Torco
Racing Fuels/Honda rider Trey Canard he
was climbing the monstrous mountains of
Glen Helen Raceway. Since then we
haven't heard to much of him, so we
decided to catch up with Trey to see what
he has been up to this off season and
how is preparing for his very first

5 Minutes with .... Kevin Windham January, 03, 2008
It was déjà vu. Three years ago, on January 7, 2005, I was
speaking with Kevin Windham immediately after the press
conference for the season-opening Anaheim SX. Outside
the stadium windows, the skies were lead gray and the
clouds were oversaturated with moisture. The track was
covered in plastic and the weather people were claiming
Noah’s Ark-style rainstorms were luring off the Pacific
Ocean. Kevin Windham, sporting a big beard of facial hair,
looked concerned. And he, like the weather people, knew it
was coming. And did it ever. Round one of the 2005 season
was one of the gnarliest, rain-lashed, mud-splashed races
in modern supercross history. And Windham won it.
Now here we were on Thursday, January 3, 2008. The
press conference had just completed and here, once again,
was Kevin Windham was before me, speaking into my tape
recorder and looking out at a covered track the weather
people were claiming would be besieged by in rain in less
than 24 hours. And not only was he irked by the threat of a
multi-day winter storm, he was also a little peeved that he,
unlike his competitors Grand Langston, Tim Ferry, Chad

Trey Canard Injured in Practice
Corona, CA: Torco Racing Fuels Honda announced today that
Torco Racing Fuels Honda Supercross Lites racer Trey Canard
cracked his collarbone in a practice crash. Trey will rest his injury
over the holiday season and is expected to make a full recovery
within 4-5 weeks. The injury is not expected to impact his 2008
East Supercross campaign which kicks off in Atlanta, late

The last time Kevin Windham won an AMA Supercross was on a
rain-lashed Saturday night in Anaheim, California, on January 8,
2005. The past few years have been a bit of a roller coaster ride
for the veteran racer, including the 2007 AMA Supercross Series.
Windham hovered in the lower recesses of the top 10 before
finally getting on the podium at round seven in San Francisco.
Then it was back into the doldrums before finishing off his season
with two third-place finishes at Seattle and Las Vegas.
Then came the nationals. The last time Kevin Windham won an
AMA National was Washougal ’03. This past summer, four years
later, #14 pulled it all back together to win the overall at Round 6
of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship. His season ended on
a positive note as he won the 24th and final moto of the season at
Glen Helen. However, with the result came a lot of uncertainty
about Windham’s future as, while on the podium — with no deals
etched in stone for 2008 — he told the fans they just might be
seeing the last of him.

Presented by FMF is always exciting; not simply because its an
awesome track, but typically it is the race where we see the
new amateur kids making their AMA Pro debuts. One of those
kids was 16 year old Trey Canard. Riding for the powerful Sobe
Samsung No Fear Honda Team, the Oklahoman came back
from a big crash, and injured arm in moto own to take an
extremely impressive fourth in moto two! Ultimately finishing
18th overall in Motocross Lites points after competing at only
the last four rounds, I caught up with the 2007 AMA Horizon
Award winner (given to the most promising amateur from the
AMA Air Nautiques Amateur National Motocross Championships
held at Loretta Lynn’s) to get his take on 2007, and how he’s

It's a sure sign that Toyota AMA Arenacross is serious business
when the winner of an opening weekend main event sounds like
Travis Pastrana! Chad Johnson was as smooth in his interviews as
he was on the track (most of the time). He used good starts to
win the Saturday main at the Toyota AMA Arenacross opener in
Des Moines and got his season with a new team off to a great
start. Johnson has been a bit of an Arenacross lifer, so with new
changes coming in for 2007-'08, we asked what he thought about

The AMA Nationals are a much different breed from the technical
ballet of Supercross. Wide open and rough, the riders string
together 24 motos throughout a long, hot, summer to determine
National Champions in the Motocross Lites and Motocross classes.
By now we're not going to be surprising anyone by congratulating
Ryan Villopoto and Grant Langston on their titles, but how they
got there was pretty wild to watch. Ryan had stretched out a lead
over his Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammate, Ben
Townley, in the AMA Lites standings by the time they got to
Unadilla, but a DNF allowed Ben back into the chase, and they two
were only a few points apart for much of the rest of the season.
Villopoto turned it on near the end, and combined with a few
mistakes by Townley, clinched his second straight outdoor title.
In the Motocross class, you'd have had a hard time finding
anyone who'd have bet against James Stewart as a shoe-in for
the title at the beginning of the season. Ricky Carmichael was
only running a limited number of events, and it appeared that no
one would have the speed to run with Ricky or James. When they
raced together, they were often 30 seconds or better ahead of
third place. But James suffered a practice crash at Unadilla that
left him with a whiplash-style neck injury... read the full story
