Mike Brown the current MX2 British motocross champion took the
main event at the third round of the British Supercross
Championship in Liverpool last night.
With very few British championship top ten riders on show in both
the Open and Lites class the crowd which was sizeable seemed
somewhat quiet.
SUSO MVR-D Suzuki’s Carl Nunn, BMW’s Gordon Crockard, Mike
Brown from CAS and Neville Bradshaw were the only riders who
compete on a regular basis in the Maxxis championship top ten
and in the youth classes it was the same scenario as the main
event, not one rider from our British Championship top ten were
on show in any class - is this a true British championship?
The introduction of the dash for cash which is very similar to what
the Americans do at Vegas, where two riders battle it out for two
laps went down well with the crowd and had them cheering on
their favourite rider – eventual winner and £600 better off was
Mike Brown who showed real pace over the two laps. Overall the
new Liverpool Echo Arena is excellent and as usual the riders did

CAS Honda rider Mike Brown took victory in the British MX2
Championship at Howton Court, Pontrilas this weekend after a
dramatic final round showdown, while team-mate Ken DeDycker
finished second overall in the MX1 series with Multitek Honda hero
James Noble in third position. Brown arrived at the championship
decider 12 points ahead of Tommy Searle and made a good start
in the first moto into second position. The 35-year-old then took
the lead in the opening few laps of the 30 minute plus two-lap
session before being hunted down by Jason Dougan.
Brown managed to fend off arch-rival Searle, who caught the
Honda rider in the closing stages, to finish in second position. In
the second moto Brown had to finish in just seventh position to
take the title, however with his worst race start of the season, he
was in just twelfth place by the end of the first lap.
The American rider gallantly battled his way through the field to
secure fifth position aboard his CRF250R, putting him third overall
at the final round and to ensure being crowned the British

Europe’s premier off road series saw a dramatic close to its 2007
campaign with an action packed final round at Howton Court,
Pontrilas. After yet another top level day of racing Scotland’s
Billy MacKenzie – De Groot Kawasaki and American rider Mike
Brown – CAS Honda emerged as worthy champions of the MX1
and MX2 classes respectively. Both riders arrived at the hillside
circuit on the English / Welsh border with a slim advantage over
their nearest rivals, and two potentially championship wrecking
motos ahead of them.
Whilst Brown slightly increased his lead over Tommy Searle
KTM UK with a better first race result than his younger
challenger, the experienced American had to wait to the final to
clinch a well deserved British domestic title.
MacKenzie on the other hand saw De Dycker close within six
points of him after he followed the 2006 champion home in the
first moto, before the Scot responded brilliantly with a solid
showing in the second and decisive race to claim the crown in
this his first season in the MX1 category.
With the eventual champions pre occupied with their main task,
guest rider Tanel Leok – De Groot Kawasaki and Jason Dougan
– Forkrent Suzuki seized the opportunity to take the overall
honours on the day.
Leok played his part in the MX1 show down, as he battled hard
with De Dycker in the first race and prevented the Belgian from
taking a maximum points haul that would have put further

that “it feels awesome; I have established myself as one of the
top guys in the class.”
Mikey’s not Scared
Talking about the rear shock that he got from the World
Motocross Red Bull KTM Team, Mike would add “it really made
a difference at Budds Creek; then I went to Red Bud and got
third with a 3 -3, and was racing with Bubba and RC. My
confidence really rose from there; the first couple rounds I was
kind of scared and intimidated by the guys because they were my
heroes, and I looked up to them. Since then (Red Bud) I wasn’t
scared anymore and knew that I could be one of the top guys. I
realized that this was where I was meant to be.”

“I’m looking forward to going to Suzuki next year; it will be a
good change for me – being with Roger and Ricky and all the
staff there. I think that it will really raise my confidence as to
how I can ride a motorcycle” explained Mike Alessi on his move

Sunday Morning Coffee with Mike Brown
I had heard rumors that Mike Brown may be returning
home to America to race the Glen Helen AMA Pro
Motocross Championship, but it wasn’t until I saw the
number 3 Honda going through Tech Inspection that I
knew it was true. Pitted under the MDK Honda Team
awning, I was anxious to hear about Mike’s season in
Europe, where on his way to his seventh overall, he took
a moto win. In spite of all his old friends stopping buy,
I had a chance to talk to Brownie for a few minutes.

The sixth round of the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship,
the Grand Prix of Japan at the Sugo circuit, May 27 saw Billy
Mackenzie take the GP win but CAS Honda's Mike Brown clinched
victory in the second moto and scored the first podium result of
the season for the CRF450R with runner-up position overall.
The veteran celebrated his first moto victory since Red Bud 2005
(AMA Nationals) and his first in the World Championship since
2000 and the German Grand Prix at Gaildorf. In front of 24,000
spectators at the rough, hard and technical course close to Sendai
city Brown, on his maiden visit to Sugo, placed fifth in the first
moto behind a runaway Mackenzie while Jonathan Barragan was
second, Josh Coppins third and David Philippaerts fourth.
Mackenzie was leading the second race ahead of Brown but an
untimely crash let the American, who again started so well in bot
sprints, through to own the chequered flag. The 35 year old gave
the British CAS team their first silverware since Ken de Dycker's
appearance in the top three at the Grand Prix of Northern Ireland
last August. De Dycker, who claimed his debut World Champion-
ship podium at Sugo twelve months ago, qualified in third
position but was unable to capitalise on some early decent speed.
