Three GPs into the MX1 world championships, Belgian Steve Ramon was
suffering from bad luck and his title hopes were fading as fast as Josh
Coppins was pulling away. Ramon never gave up and got it together, only
to hurt his wrist and struggle to make the podium at the end. Coppins'
fate was a bit worse, and he had to pull out, giving Ramon a chance to
finish on top for his first MX1 world championship.
Ramon is a regular at the MXoN each year as a key member of Team
Belgium. We spoke with him about his year as he was waiting to go in to
the FIM Off Road Awards in Monaco at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel.

Ryno still charges
This weekend saw the International Oceania Motocross
Championship which was held in Australia at the Baarabool
circuit.
The southern hemispheres best racers were there including
Josh Coppins, Daryl Hurley and Craig Anderson. Australia
came out on top and took the coveted title.
One rider who made the trip to Melbourne was American
ace Ryan Hughes, MOTO managed to get roving reporter
Stuart Flockhart who happened to be in OZ for a holiday to
ask the veteran star, what’s going down in Ryno’s world.

Suzuki Scores 2nd & 3rd in Oceania MX Championship -ozzy go-
Team Shift Motul Suzuki rider, Daryl Hurley clinched second place in the
2007 International Oceania Motocross Championship at Barrabool (VIC),
today, ahead of American racing hero and guest team mate, Ryan Hughes
in third place.
Piloting the Team Shift Motul Suzuki prepared RM-Z450, US star rider
Hughes made a strong start narrowly missing the holeshot in the opening
20-minute Pro Open moto and running in the top three with the race lead
in sight.
As the current world number two, Josh Coppins, assumed the lead ahead
of Craig Anderson, Hughes remained in touch in third until a small moment
on the fourth lap saw him give Anderson some breathing space and the
leading trio spread out but maintained position until the chequered flag.
Team Shift Motul Suzuki regular, Daryl Hurley made a slower start in the
first Pro Open race, completing the opening lap in ninth place, but the
former Australian Motocross Champion delivered a sizzling performance as
he charged through the field and closed in on the leaders.
On lap seven, Hurley made a move to grab sixth spot and on the following
lap passed Michael Addison and Daniel McCoy to claim fourth place and
began reeling in fellow Suzuki rider, Hughes.
While Hurley continued to close the gap to Hughes, the New Zealander ran
out of laps before the chequered flag and had to settle for fourth place.
The second Pro Open race got underway with an action packed opening
lap that had Hurley duelling with Hughes for third place. Hughes won out
and left Hurley to battle with slow starting Coppins. On the second lap
Hughes and Coppins had a coming together which dropped both riders

Josh Coppins cleans up International MX in Barrabool
The NZ vs Australia race format which sees the best Pro,
Junior and Women riders from each country battle it out
at the famous Barrabool circuit west of Melbourne, has
seen Kiwi star Josh Coppins blitz all races at the annual
event. The NZ team captain won both Pro races, the one
on-one Super Pole against former GP rival and guest
American racer Ryan Hughs, and to add the icing on the
cake, Coppins cleaned up the Pro feature race which had
the 20 top scoring Pro Lites riders trying to making their
mark against the 20 top Pro Open riders.
“I really enjoyed myself this weekend” smiled Coppins. “I
set the fastest time in practice and qualifying on Saturday
and stayed out of trouble on Sunday and managed to win
all races. The track was fast and technical which I liked
and we had good weather with some wind in the morning
making it a bit dusty.”
Despite Coppins’s full house of wins, Team NZ were still
not able to pry the trophy from a hungry Aussie team.
“NZ did well in the Pro class and in the woman’s class
with a great ride from Katherine Prumm but we really
struggled in the Junior classes which I guess is where we
lost out to Australia. I love doing this event and am going
to stay on a little longer in Oz for a bit of a holiday before
heading back home to Motueka.” added the factory

Australia has claimed the Oceania Championship for the third
year in a row on the back of a strong performance by it's Lites
and Junior riders at the iconic Barabool motocross circuit just
outside of Geelong, Victoria, over the weekend.
World Championship top runner Josh Coppins once again lead the
Kiwi charge and took out the Pro Open class in fairly easy fashion
ahead of his compatriot Daryl Hurley. American motocross legend
Ryan Hughes rounded out the Pro Open podium with third overall.
“I really enjoyed myself this weekend” smiled Coppins. “I set the
fastest time in practice and qualifying on Saturday and stayed out
of trouble on Sunday and managed to win all races. The track was

Hurley, who has had a shocking run with injuries found some of
the form that has seen him at the top of the motocross tree in the
past. "Even though I didn't get great starts, my speed was good
overall today and I managed to get through and make passes in
every race. "To get second to Josh feels pretty good, especially in
the second race. He nearly won the World Championship so I'm
pretty happy to have been able torun with him and finish second
to him, today." 
Hughes was happy with his third and really enjoyed the event and
level of competition, but despite his admission that he ran out of a
bit of fitness he still lived up to his hard racing reputation and
delivered a great ride for the fans and proved to be a tough
competitor. "I've never raced in Australia before, but I've had so
many great people help bring me out here to race this weekend,
the track is great and the level of competition is so strong that I
definitely want to come back and do this event again next year,"

Australia has named a crack team to take on the star-studded New Zealanders in
the International Oceania MX Championship at McAdam Park, Barrabool (Vic) on October
27-28.
The showpiece trans-Tasman event, back at McAdam Park after a two-year absence,
promises to be yet another battle royale, with multiple national motocross and
supercross champion Craig Anderson to captain the Australians against the might of
New Zealand, which has world No. 3 Josh Coppins and the prodigiously talented
Katherine Prumm on its roster.
In addition to the marquee names from Australia and New Zealand, American
veteran Ryan “Ryno” Hughes will add even more lustre to the event.
Although he’ll only be fighting for individual, rather than team honours, the 34-year-
old Californian will undoubtedly be one of the crowd favourites.
Hughes was a member of American’s 2000 Motocross of Nations (MXON)-winning
team, alongside the incomparable Ricky Carmichael and Travis Pastrana.
"The Aussies and Kiwis might like to beat Americans, well we Americans like to beat
everybody,” said Hughes. “I'm coming down there to win.”
Both Oceania teams will be made up of 14 riders, comprising four apiece in the Pro
Open and Pro Lites categories, and three each in Juniors and Women.
Two races will be held per class, with the 28 ‘championship’ riders to be joined by
international rider Hughes who is ready to “mix it up” amongst the throng of
competitors from Australia and New Zealand.
This year’s Oceania format will also include the Pro Shootout and Pro Feature races.
The latter will see the top 20 Pro Lites and top 20 Pro Open riders compete in an all

Chad Reed to lead Team Australia at the Motocross of
Nations this weekend
Chad Reed will live out a childhood dream this weekend
when he captains the Australian team at the Motocross of
Nations conducted at Budd’s Creek in America.
Billed as the ‘Olympics of Motocross’ the event will see
the best three riders from each nation do battle against
each other in an effort to win the accolade of being the
best country in the dirt bike discipline of motocross.
Reed will return to Motocross of Nations this year after
injury and contractual obligations restrictions have meant
the Yamaha star has been unable to take part in the
international event in recent years.
The 25 year-old is relishing the opportunity to represent
his country whilst leading the team made up of fellow
Australian riders Michael Byrne and Andrew McFarlane.
“I think as a kid everybody had a dream of representing
their nation in their chosen sport and this weekend I will
get the opportunity to experience this once again but this
time as the Captain of the Australian team,” Reed said
from his home in Florida where the Australian team have
been bonding all week.
“One of my ambitions for this year was to be available for
Motocross of Nations and it was also the reason why I
raced my only AMA MX round at Budd’s Creek as it
provided me the chance to get familiar with the venue
prior to this weekend.”
Reed first put on the green and gold jersey at the
Motocross of Nations in 2001 and on debut he took a
moto victory.
“I was part o the squad which took victory at the
international teams event staged at Glenn Helen in 2002.
This year as a team we are focused on returning the
Australian flag to the winner’s podium,” Reed said.
Reed will return to Australian soil again in late November
to finalise plans for the much anticipated 2008
Australasian Supercross Series.
Reed and business partner Mike Porra secured the series
rights earlier this year and will launch the new look series
later this year with the goal of re establishing Supercross

CAS Honda rider Mike Brown took victory in the British MX2
Championship at Howton Court, Pontrilas this weekend after a
dramatic final round showdown, while team-mate Ken DeDycker
finished second overall in the MX1 series with Multitek Honda hero
James Noble in third position. Brown arrived at the championship
decider 12 points ahead of Tommy Searle and made a good start
in the first moto into second position. The 35-year-old then took
the lead in the opening few laps of the 30 minute plus two-lap
session before being hunted down by Jason Dougan.
Brown managed to fend off arch-rival Searle, who caught the
Honda rider in the closing stages, to finish in second position. In
the second moto Brown had to finish in just seventh position to
take the title, however with his worst race start of the season, he
was in just twelfth place by the end of the first lap.
The American rider gallantly battled his way through the field to
secure fifth position aboard his CRF250R, putting him third overall
at the final round and to ensure being crowned the British
