Yamaha Factory Racing’s Race Report - AMA Motocross Championship - Millville

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Grant Langston charged to a pair of
AMA Motocross podiums at Millville, MN on Sunday, August 12.
By scoring outstanding 2-2 moto finishes, Langston moved up
to third in the 2007 championship, just 11 points behind Tim
Ferry and Andrew Short with six motos remaining in the season.
Langston highly credits his brand new 2008 YZ450F for the late-
season surge – in which he has now podiumed in three straight
races – referring to the new model as simply “awesome.”

Langston’s performances were virtual carbon copies of each
other. He started inside the top eight in both motos, then
methodically worked his way forward to take second behind
double race winner Ricky Carmichael. In the first moto, Kevin
Windham took the early lead but gave it up to Carmichael on
lap two as Langston jumped from fifth to fourth. The Yamaha
rider charged into third on lap five, then took over second
from Short just before the halfway point. Langston’s blazing
lap times, second only to Carmichael’s, gave him a 12-
second cushion over Short at the flag.

The second moto was red-flagged on the first lap due to a
crash by David Vuillemin. After the restart, Langston quickly
got in a rhythm and shot from eighth to fifth on lap two. He
then picked off Ivan Tedesco, Short and Mike Alessi to slide
into second place on lap 10. Once again, Langston built up a
sizable advantage over his closest pursuer at the finish. “I
was glad to see that Grant has raced himself back into the
chase,” said Yamaha Factory Team Manager Jim Perry
afterwards. “I’m looking forward to the next three events.”
