The Moto X Best Trick competition is always one of the spookiest events
at the X Games. Throw down your single best trick (or combo), and the
difference between hero and hospital is frighteningly small.
Kyle Loza was the hero this time around. Competing in his first X Games,
he showed up with a new trick, which was basically a pirouette alongside
his bike dubbed “The Volt”, that earned him the gold medal.
In the first round, Kyle’s biggest threat seemed to come from a relatively
unknown rider, Michigan’s Scott Murray. Video of Scott pulling off a
duplicate of last year’s winning move, the double backflip, had earned
Scott a last-minute spot in the elite field of riders. Unfortunately, Scott
came up a little short on his attempt, and went down hard, leaving both
him and his bike tweaked.
The medal spots were filled out by Adam Jones, whose shaolin backflip
earned him silver; and Todd Potter, who used a kiss of death flip for bronze.
