Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins was golden at X Games once again. With
her mother and grandmother in attendance, Hawkins beat out
Mimi Knoop and Cara-Beth Burnside in the Skateboard women's
vert finals to capture her second X Games gold medal.
Hawkins, 17, won her first one when she was 14. She didn't
compete last year because of a knee injury. The Cardiff by the
Sea, Calif., resident, had reconstructive ACL surgery on her left
knee and skated with knee brace.
She told the Associated Press yesterday that the knee was still
tender, but after the event she said it was healthy.
"It's just there to protect me so I can keep skating," Hawkins
said about the brace. "But the knee is fine."
Burnside, 30, had won three of the previous four gold medals.
She is considered a trailblazer in women's skateboarding and
something of a mentor for Hawkins.
