Bayliss wins pole for Brands Hatch leg of World Superbikes

Brands Hath, England: Defending World Superbikes champion
Troy Bayliss will start on the pole position for Sunday's 10th
round.

The Australian edged series leader James Toseland of Britain in
Saturday's qualifying. Bayliss clocked 1 minute, 25.607 seconds
on his Ducati, with Toseland second in 1:25.635. Nori Haga of
Japan was third.

Toseland, who is looking for his first win on his home track at
Brands Hatch, leads the overall standings by 43 points.

"It was an OK lap but round here it's so risky to put it right on the
line, and the last thing I wanted to do was crash out," Toseland
said. "Obviously, I wanted pole in front of my home crowd, but
Troy and I have been swapping fastest times since Friday. He
'pipped' me today, but hopefully I'll turn the tables tomorrow and
finally get a win here."

With three rounds left, Toseland leads with 305 points, followed
by former MotoGP rider Max Biaggi, who is in his first Superbikes
season, on 262. Haga is third with 260.
