Riders are calling the course in Qualcomm Stadium the best of
the year so far. The large floor space gives the Dirt Wurx staff
options that they don’t have in baseball stadiums. There is a
very big set of whoops coming right out of the first turn that are
separating the men from the boys – and the short-legged riders
from those with longer limbs. In fact, Mike Alessi was thrown
from his Suzuki and broke his collarbone during the second
session today. The start straight is long and wide and rolls into
a sandy, sweeping left-hander. One of the rhythm lanes is
allowing a few riders to triple through it and into the following
turn – an off-camber, 180-degree right-hander.
In the Lites class, Jason Lawrence kept his momentum going by
setting the quickest lap time of the day. Dungey was a very
close second, though, and he looks like he wants redemption
from last weekend’s disaster. Brett Metcalfe looked good, too,
but crashed pretty hard during the second session and pulled
off the track. He got his foot looked at by the Asterisk Mobile
Medical Team, but it doesn’t look like anything is broken. Brett
qualified fifth fastest and he’s still planning on racing tonight.

MDK/KTM Anaheim III Race Report: Billy Laninovich 4th in Lites Main Event -ozzy go-
AMA Supercross Lites West
MDK KTM Lites Team rider Billy Laninovich started the evening out well
when he got a mid-pack start in Lites Heat #1 but was able to work his way
into the 6th place qualifying position.
His teammate, Justin Brayton, lined the gate for Heat #2. Although Brayton
has been under the weather with a head cold for the past three weeks, you
wouldn't have known based on his heat race performance. He brought his
KTM up into the top three picking up third place and a direct transfer to the
main.
All American KTM MX Fire and Police rider, Ryan Beat, placed 3rd in the Last
Chance Qualifier to transfer into his first main event on his new KTM 250SX-F
machine.
The gate dropped for the Lites main event and Laninovich and his KTM were
in the top five. Brayton wasn't as fortunate and started mid-pack.
Throughout the 15 lap main Laninovich held a top five spot staying ahead of
the pack. Brayton continued to charge forward and had moved into 7th by
the end of the race. Laninovich earned his best finish of the season when he
came across the finish line in 4th just one spot shy of the podium.
AMA Supercross class
MDK KTM Factory rider Nick Wey, fresh off his best finish at last weeks San
Francisco round, was "Ready to Race" at the gate drop for his Supercross
class heat. Wey had a mid-pack start and was able to break into the top five
to easily transfer into the main.
In the Supercross main Wey got a good jump but got pushed back to the
bottom of the top ten. He battled around 9th and 10th place for a while
before moving into 8th. He managed to hold off the hard-charging riders

MDK KTM Race Report: Anaheim 2
Anaheim, CA – “Welcome to 1986!” hollered Supercross announcer Terry Boyd
to kick off the third round of the AMA Supercross FIM World Championship at the
Angels Stadium.
The AMA and FIM succeeded in reproducing the 1986 replica race track that held
the epic battle between Rick Johnson and David Bailey. Furthermore, to honor
that battle, they had both past champions take an honorary lap around the
track. Johnson rode his brand new KTM alongside Bailey as the crowd cheered.
The 80’s retro theme was prominent around the track and the pits. Fans were
decked out in 1980’s clothing and riders were dressed in vintage gear.
As the evening began, MDK KTM Lites rider Billy Laninovich and MDK KTM
support rider Drew Gooselaar lined up for Heat #1. Both riders had a decent
jump from the gate. Gooselaar rounded turn one in fourth while Laninovich was
two spots back in 6th. Laninovich quickly moved into 5th and held that position
through the finish. Gooselaar qualified for his first main event by finishing 7th in
the heat.
MDK KTM Lites rider Justin Brayton got ready for Heat #2. He was second
around the first turn and then passed for the lead for a brief second before the
hard charging #338 bike of Jason Lawrence made the pass for first. Brayton
stayed close and rode in second looking to repeat his Anaheim 1 heat race.
Unfortunately, he accidentally stalled his bike on lap 4 losing only three
positions. He got the bike started on the second kick and began closing back in
on the 3rd and 4th place riders. He passed for 4th on lap 5 and moved into 3rd
on the last lap, qualifying into the main.
MDK KTM Factory rider Nick Wey got a mid-pack start in the Supercross class
Heat #1. He was twelfth around the first turn and began picking off riders. By
the end of the first lap he had moved into 10th and was only one position short
of qualifying. He made the pass into 9th on lap 3 and held that position to
