Joe Calzaghe proved he is the best 168lbs on the planet at the
Millennium stadium in Cardiff,Wales on Saturday night when he
unanimously out-pointed the previously undefeated Mikkel
Kessler over 12 rounds.
The first half of the contest proved to be a technical battle
between two fine boxers but the Welshman’s sheer volume of
punches coupled with his greater boxing skills, pushed him ahead
in the later rounds for a well deserved victory. All three judges
scored the bout for Calzaghe by scores of 117-111, 116-112 and
116-112. Kessler was the bigger puncher but Calzaghe, busier
style and experience made all the difference.
Calzaghe added the WBA and WBC crowns to his WBO title.
