With rain, cool temperatures and showers forecast for a wet and
windy Phillip Island this week, Australian Grand Prix rider Ant
West should, in theory, be in his element.
The newly hired Kawasaki factory rider has a formidable record in
trying conditions and, in a career in which he has rarely had the
best equipment, West has produced outstanding results with race
conditions at their worst.
But the 26-year-old Queenslander is, surprisingly, not too excited
at the prospect of wild weather this weekend, believing that as a
relative newcomer to the Kawasaki MotoGP bike he will be best
served by continuing to learn about his machine's capabilities in
the dry.
While he has plenty of experience at the fast and demanding
Phillip Island venue, it has been mainly on 250cc grand prix bikes
— completely different to the 800cc MotoGP machine he will ride
at this weekend.
I would like it to be dry because I have still got to learn the bike
a bit on this track," West said. full story on theage.com.au
