With his moto finishes of 1 – 3 Team Yamaha’s Grant Langston not only took the
overall win at Glen Helen, he also scored another number 1 plate as the 2007 AMA
Toyota Motocross Champion.
Chipping Away
“We didn’t get off to the start we wanted earlier in the season; I think about five
rounds ago that we were still sitting sixth in points. I didn’t really think that there was
a hope in hell that we would be here – every week we were just chipping away;
chipping away. I am really stoked to accomplish this” said the new champ on winning
the title.
Grant’s Bonus
Not only did Langston win the championship, he also won the race. “When I won that
first moto it just took a big load off, and it increased my lead even more. That second
moto was a tougher one; K-Dub was riding really well. It’s hard to motivate yourself
to go 100% when you don’t need to. When he was pulling away I saw Alessi coming
up behind me, and I wasn’t going to fight him for it. I also realized that it was good
enough for the overall, so that was an added bonus” added Langston.
Langston’s Carrot
Talking about his Championship Grant would add “I think the good thing was that I got
on a roll; I don’t know what it is, but it’s like seeing that carrot dangled in front of you.
As soon as I saw that carrot I was a different rider. Once I was on that roll it seemed
easier to win than it was three months ago to get a fifth place finish. You got to be in it
to win it, and it’s a long series.”
Team Effort
“They’re all (Championships) special, but I think that this one has more gratification
because of what we all went through as a team, and as a family. With the frustration
that I had, and then to get rewarded like this just makes it that much more special,
because it was that much harder. With my 125 races I was mad if I didn’t win, now it’s
like I am always excited if I do win” added Langston about his new Championship.
