Le Mans buoys Stoner

Australian MotoGP Championship leader Casey Stoner believes
his podium finish on a tight track at Le Mans shows that his
Ducati bike had passed a 'big test' and would be tough to beat
at the upcoming Mugello Grand Prix. Stoner said any doubts
regarding the Ducati GP7 bike's suitability on tight curves
could be put to rest by his third-place in the wet conditions
and that the team would be even harder to beat at the high-
speed Mugello track. "This weekend has been a big test for
the Ducati again," Stoner told Italia1. "Many people say it's
only good on the straights. (But) On this circuit we qualified
in second position and we were very good for a dry race.
In the wet we arrived in a very good position." Stoner said
the Ducati's competitiveness on the tight curves was a good
indication of how fast he could go at Mugello, where the bike's
power would come to the fore on the Italian track's long
straights. "Mugello is one of my favourite circuits and also
one of Ducati's favourite circuits. I had some very good results
there in the past. It's very fast, so hopefully the Ducati
will be OK." Stoner will have to contend with another in-form
Australian in Chris Vermeulen, as the Rizla Suzuki rider will
go to Mugello full of confidence after winning his first MotoGP
of the season at Le Mans. Sportal.com.au
