CASEY Stoner equalled Valentino Rossi's all-time points record as
he wound up his triumphant MotoGP world championship season
with a second-place finish in the Valencia Grand Prix in Spain on
Sunday.
While world champion Stoner fought a tense battle with race
winner Dani Pedrosa, fellow Australian Chris Vermeulen claimed
sixth place with an impressive performance from 11th on the grid
to finish sixth in the championship.
With 10 victories and a total of 14 podiums from 18 races, Stoner
has stamped his dominance on the series. His 367 championship
points matched the record number accumulated by five-times
world champion Rossi in 2005.
Stoner finished the season 125 points clear of Pedrosa, who
snatched runner-up spot from Rossi as the Italian was forced out
during the last race with a technical problem.
"It's been a fantastic year. I couldn't ask for anything more and
today, Dani rode a faultless race. He was just a little quicker than
me over the final laps," Stoner said. full story on theage.com.au
