World champion Casey Stoner has set the pace in the warm-up
session ahead of today's Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.
Stoner's Ducati was almost half a second quicker than Italian
Valentino Rossi and his Yamaha.
Frenchman Randy De Puniet continued to be among the
pacesetters, claiming the third quickest time on a Kawasaki.
Queenslander Anthony West finished in eighth spot, one second
off Stoner's time.
Compatriot Chris Vermeulen again struggled on his Suzuki and
could manage no better than 16th fastest.
Stoner is chasing his first win at Phillip Island and his ninth victory
of the season. He starts the race from third place on the grid
behind pole-sitter Dani Pedrosa and Rossi. theage.com.au
