Casey Stoner says talk of a single tyre in MotoGP next season is out of control
The Bridgestone-shod Ducati rider has endured speculation that
governing body Dorna Sport's proposal to switch to a control tyre
next year is aimed at slowing him and the all-conquering Ducati
team down.
However Stoner - along with fellow Australians and Bridgestone
riders Chris Vermeulen and Ant West -- says a control tyre will
slow the field and limit development.
"These tyres are built for this championship," Stoner said
yesterday. "The tyre manufacturers compete just like the teams
do. I think it (the proposal) is against the majority of the class
and the majority of riders. I don't believe it's against me, but
considering we won the world championship, maybe it is."
Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi is the most prominent advocate of a
control tyre, but Stoner refused to finger the Italian as the man
driving the changes, which will be decided at a Grand Prix
Commission meeting in Malaysia on October 22.
