Ricky Carmichael posted a 2:11.6-lap time during his seven-lap
warm-up this morning in the first of two practice groups. RC was
two seconds faster than the next MX1 rider, Tanel Leok of
Estonia. The Monster Energy USA rider's MX2 teammate, Ryan
Villopoto was third fastest and was within a few hundredths of a
second off Leok's pace.
Group 2 was bested by South Africa's Grant Langston. GL was
within a couple seconds of Carmichael's pace, but that will add up
to a considerable amount by the end of 30+2. We saw yesterday
that Langston would love to challenge the Goat, but actually being
able to do so is something different altogether.
B-Final
Ecuador's Martin Davalos got a bit of personal satisfaction by
winning the B-Final, but it was Team Brazil that won biggest.
Antonio Balbi Jr. took second place for the South American squad
and his teammate Leandro Nunes DaSilva was third. The
combined score of the Brazilians gave them the overall and
subsequently qualified them for the Motocross of Nations races
later this afternoon.
