The battle for king of the motorcycle racing world heads to
Portugal this weekend for the 15th round of MotoGP action. The
2007 MotoGP World Champion could conceivably be crowned this
weekend at Estoril if Marlboro Ducati's Casey Stoner rips off his
fourth consecutive victory. Should the young Australian grab the
checkers, Yamaha Fiat's Valentino Rossi, who sits second in the
championship points race, needs a top five finish or Stoner will
earn the right to run the No. 1 plate.
Stoner's ascent to the highest echelon of two-wheeled
motorsports this season is astounding given his propensity to
crash last year. Stoner has won a phenomenal 8 out of 13 races
this season. With a victory at Estoril, he would become the
youngest rider in the 59-year history of the world championships
to win four consecutive races.
"We've got five races left now and if we are able to win the
championship it doesn't matter at which race we win it, anywhere
will do," Stoner said.
Rossi trails Stoner by 85 points and concedes that the margin is
almost insurmountable. click on ozzy go to the full story
