Casey Stoner continued putting his name atop the leaderboard as
the young Australian rode his Marlboro Ducati GP7 to the pole
position at Sachsenring. Stoner will start tomorrow's 30-lap race
from the front of the grid, joined on the front row by Honda riders
Dani Pedrosa and Marco Melandri.
Stoner will be looking to break the strange 2007 streak which has
seen no pole position winner on Saturday claim the checkers on
Sunday. Judging by his qualifying performance and confidence,
Stoner's chances of breaking the pole position jinx sound good.
"Like most weekends we're pretty happy before we go into the
race, so we'll just see what happens," said Stoner. "We may not
be able to win it but I know we're going to be able to fight for a
podium. It's very, very hot and I've heard it's going to be hotter
tomorrow, so fitness and tires are going to come into it at the
end."
As usual, Stoner's greatest championship rival, Valentino Rossi,
will be on the gas running down the Aussie. The Doctor will set his
sights on the front-running Ducati from the sixth-place position on
Row 2. Rossi will be looking to jump off the line ahead of the
